Culture

Haste makes waste(急がば回れ)

When I see proverbs with the same meaning expressed differently in other languages, I strongly feel that the essence of human beings is the same, although the culture and customs are different.

The detour may sometimes be faster than trying to force a shortcut.

It is said that this word in Japan was born from the events at Lake Biwa.

When entering the capital of Kyoto from the east, it was generally faster to use the boat on Lake Biwa. However, Lake Biwa is a large lake, and if the wind blows, ships cannot leave. In such a case, it was faster to take a detour to the south where the bridge was built.
