To make your trip to Japan more interesting

sight seeing (general) Temples & Buddhism Religion

Flashy Kinkakuji Temple, sober Ginkakuji Temple(派手な金閣寺、地味な銀閣寺)

The entire surface of Kinkakuji Temple in Kyoto is covered with gold  which is “Kin” in Japanese. On the other hand, there is also Ginkakuji. “Gin” is silver in Japanese. People would think that the whole surface was covered with silver, but this one is not covered with silver.

It has been scientifically confirmed whether it was covered with silver in the past. As a result, there is no fact that silver is pasted.

In the first place, although it was a temple of the Rinzai sect, which is one of the Zen sect that values simpleness, I could not understand that there was a flashy temple like Kinkakuji. I think the appearance of Ginkakuji is just right.
