I don’t know what is for Japan. But as to the beetles, it would be the snail wearer (the scientific name: Damaster blaptoides). It is naturally distributed from Hokkaido to Kyushu and is endemic to Japan.

Snails wearers belong to the group of ground beetles (Family Carabidae) and feed on small creatures on the ground.

It is very difficult for foreigners to come to Japan to find and observe snail wearers outdoors, mainly because they are nocturnal.

However, I don’t think that the snail wears are not rare species, because there are recent observation records even in the big cities of Osaka. So if you have a chance, please look for them.
