The marriage of a fox

Sometimes we see it raining even though the sun is shining. In Japan, it is called “the marriage of a fox.”

In Japan, the fox is regarded as a bad animal that deceives humans . The saying is probably related to the lie-like situation that it rains even though it is sunny is connected with the fox character that deceives humans.

This saying is probably based on the fact that foxes used to be familiar animals.

However, with the exception of Hokkaido, foxes have become very rare animals in modern times. I’ve been doing fieldwork for over 30 years, but I’ve only met foxes outdoors a few times.
